Moving House

There are a number of things that you need to know when you’re planning on moving house. Assuming that you have already got your quotations sorted out and you have decided on which company to use, check your point of departure and destination to make sure that trucks (most trucks are 4.3m high) have easy access to the prospective abodes. You may accrue extra costs for a shuttle if the vehicle cannot approach closer than 50m to the house. Confirm you date for moving house a month before the move. Check on the insurance cover for your goods while in transit. Make sure that all of the relevant utility services know of either your termination of service (don’t forget to collect any deposits) or your change of address. Make a note of the serial numbers of any electronic equipment, and wherever possible pack that equipment away in its original packing.

It’s a good idea to have any rugs or draperies cleaned or washed before moving house rather than waiting till you get to your destination. There’s no better time for doing this. Check with your moving company what they are going to provide in the way of packing materials. A good company will provide everything, but if the company you’re using doesn’t, then it pays to be prepared. When you’re moving house start using up all the items in your freezers a month or even more before the move – you don’t need to be throwing out stuff that’s not going to travel well.
