Packing Material

Fragile goods are sometimes damaged in transit between one lace and another, and the most common cause of this is either vibration or heavy knocks. It is therefore essential that when you are relocating from one place to another that your delicate possessions be protected by using packing material in the right way. One of the most common packing materials used by shipping or removal companies is Encapsulated-air Plastic Sheeting, otherwise known as bubble wrap. Encapsulated-air provides good cushioning for lightweight items, and can be cut to wrap virtually any shape or sized product. However it should not be used for heavyweight objects as a sharp shock can cause the bubbles to burst, thus lessening the protection. There should be at least 2 inches or 5 cms of protection around and between fragile items, and the same amount of padding inside the box.

Many fragile items are surrounded by moulded expanded polystyrene when you purchase them new – this is a typical packing material for electrical or electronic goods such as food processors or computer related products. When you purchase such products and if it is practical, you should keep the boxes and the enclosed packing material for possible use in future moves. Being able to pack your computer monitor in its original packing is probably the best possible way of protecting it in transit. Removal companies use blankets to wrap furniture and other heavy objects for internal journeys. These can obviously not be used internationally in containers, and instead corrugated or padded paper is often used. If you have any queries about packing, don’t hesitate to call us.
