Long Distance Movers
There are occasionally times when it is absolutely essential to make use of long distance movers, and one of those times is when relocating to another country, especially when it’s in another continent. One of the best bits of advice that anyone can give you is to start thinking about the move well in advance, because there are more things involved than you can imagine. Decide well in advance which long distance movers you are going to use for the move, because if you’re going to move all of your furniture it will almost certainly involve the use of a container. This means that someone will have to come out to your home to access the volume of container you’re going to need. Containers come in two sizes, 6m and 12m, and there’s a big difference in the price of the two when moving from say South Africa to North America.
Long distance movers can give you lots of advice for such a large move. One thing that you have to think about is customs clearance at your destination – there are a number of items that you will not be able to take with you, for example firearms, perishables, your wine collection and so on. The other thing that you’ll find is that if you do all of your packing yourself it will be subject to a far closer customs inspection than if everything has been packed by professional long distance movers. Do you really need a container? Wouldn’t it be easier for you to sell all of your furniture (clearly not the case with antiques) so avoiding the costly container, and with what you save purchase new at your destination. All of this takes some very careful preparation and planning, one of the reasons why it is essential to start planning early.
