Long Distance Removals
Many young families, and some not-so-young families, have taken the decision to leave South Africa over recent years, and this is a trend that seems not to be letting up. The two top destinations are the United States and Australia, with New Zealand, Europe and Canada as close runners up. The motives for these relocations may be many and varied, and it is not for us to question them. Suffice it to say though, that they are all going to need long distance removals to transport their possessions from South Africa to their proposed destination. Long distance removals take a lot of preparation, and if you are planning on such a move we would advise you to start that planning well in advance – at least six months in fact. Intercontinental relocation is far more expensive than moving within the country and is much more involved.
When you’re making a move from one end of South Africa to the other you can count on taking just about everything with you – that includes everything that you have in the pantry – not so with an intercontinental move, because the chances are that customs won’t permit you to take such items with you. Because of the extremely high cost of hiring a container for long distance removals you should give a lot of thought as to whether it is actually worth taking all of your furniture with you. In many cases it works out far cheaper to sell your furniture in South Africa, so saving on the cost of a container, and buying afresh at your destination. A container costs many thousands of Rands, and if you do your figures carefully well in advance you may well find that you can cut the cost of long distance removals by some careful planning.
