Furniture Movers

Most furniture movers offer the option of having your goods packed away in boxes for you by the professional movers on their staff. This can however be an added cost that can set you back a fairly large sum. You can easily pack your own small belongings just as professionally as any removal company by keeping some common sense hints and tips in mind. The first thing to do is make sure that you have strong sturdy boxes to hold the goods. It is then important to ensure that all your goods are individually wrapped in packing material such as bubble wrap or newspaper which will prevent damage to the items. Then it is important to make certain that you have not over packed or under packed a box. If there are too few items in the box, the box may be crushed or the items will rattle around risking breakage. Too many things in box will make it fall apart.

Have enough packing tape on hand and seal each box to avoid the box opening and spilling your belongings during transport or while being carried. Also label each box correctly so that your furniture movers know which room it belongs in, once it has reached its’ destination. A great way to cushion your fragile items is to use your bed linen, duvets and cushions as packing material. Make sure that boxes carrying glass or breakable items are labelled as fragile and that they have an arrow to show which way up they should be carried.

If you have any furniture or articles that require assembly, disassemble the parts before transport. Pack the pieces in the original packaging and label it so that the items are easy re-assemble in your new home. Your clothing is best transported in suitcases and those items that need to remain hanging may be best protected by covering with a black plastic bag and transported on the back seat of your car. In fact any valuable items or items with a sentimental value that you are not comfortable trusting to a mover should transported under your care.
