Logistics

The term logistics is considered to have originated in the military's need to supply themselves with arms, ammunition and rations as they moved from their base to a forward position. In ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine empires, there were military officers with the title ‘Logistikas’ who were responsible for financial and supply distribution matters. Today logistics carries the same meaning, though it has come to include civilian supply and movement of goods as well as military. Most large corporations are responsible for their own logistics and have transport divisions for just such a purpose, but there is widespread use of third party logistics, which involves the utilization of external organizations such as Active Transport to execute logistics activities that have traditionally been performed within an organization itself.

Active Transport logistics operations and facilities include an 800m ² warehouse facility in Pretoria and a fleet of Nissan trucks ranging from 3-ton to 14-ton horse and trailer combinations, all in excellent roadworthy condition. The trucks are all pantechnicons and are available for hire with a driver for either short or long term contracts. Each of our new trucks is fitted with satellite navigation system, enabling us to constantly know its whereabouts. We are also in constants contact with our drivers by cell phone. If you have a short or long term logistics problem that you would like some help with, Active Transport will be happy to assist. Simply give us a call with the details or fill in the form on these web pages for a quotation.
