Movers and Shakers

Be ready for your movers when moving day arrives and you may be surprised at how smoothly everything will go. Remember that the movers are only responsible for carrying your belongings to and from the truck and are not there to help you pack boxes or secure your fridge, washing machine and other appliances. Get a packing service to pack your loose items into boxes professionally before moving day arrives. Label each box so that it is clear which room it belongs in when it arrives at the destination point. Dispose of all perishable food items and defrost the fridge at least 48 hours before the movers arrive. Remove all shelves and secure the fridge doors to make it safer for to carry and transport.

The drum inside your washing machine and tumble drier can move while being carried en route to your new home. Make sure that these drums are secured to prevent any damage to the machine. Other kitchen appliances such as your kettle, iron and toaster must be packed into boxes. Any boxes carrying fragile items must be marked as such with an arrow to show which way up the box should be carried. Ensure that the boxes are not too heavy for the movers to carry and that they are all secured with packing tape.

Mirrors, paintings and other large glass items should be covered with blankets, bubble wrap or other packing materials to minimise the risk of them being bumped, scratched or broken during the move. Pay special attention to the corners of these items. Following these simple pointers will ensure that all your belongings arrive safely in your new home with a minimum of hassle and fuss.
